What are Restylane® and Perlane®?
Restylane® and Perlane® are cosmetic dermal fillers that restore volume and fullness to the skin to correct moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds).
What are Restylane® and Perlane® made of?
Restylane® and Perlane® are made of hyaluronic acid. In the human body, natural hyaluronic acid provides volume and fullness to the skin. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane and Perlane has been
modified slightly to last longer than the body's hyaluronic acid. The hyaluronic acid in Restylane and Perlane is produced by a biotechnical process.
Are Restylane® and Perlane® derived from animals?
Restylane® and Perlane® contain no animal proteins. This limits any risk of animal-based disease transmission or allergic reactions. No allergy testing is required before use.*
What should patients do prior to treatment?
Restylane® and Perlane® require no pre-testing. However, you should take a few precautions before being treated with Restylane or Perlane. Prior to treatment, avoid using aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John's wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements because this may increase bruising or bleeding at the injection site. Also, if you have previously suffered from facial cold sores, discuss this with Dr.Solomon who may prescribe a medication to minimize recurrence.
How are Restylane® and Perlane® different from each other?
Restylane® and Perlane® contain stabilized hyaluronic acid, made by the same biotechnical process. The difference is Perlane is composed of larger gel particles than Restylane and is intended for deeper injection to volumize skin for correcting facial wrinkles and folds. Dr. Solomon can best determine what is right for you.
Are Restylane® and Perlane® safe?
Restylane® and Perlane® have well defined safety profiles. Clinical studies showed no significant differences in the safety of Restylane and Perlane. Restylane is the most used, most studied cosmetic dermal filler, and has been used in over 70 countries and in more than 1.4 million treatments in the U.S.
How long do Restylane® or Perlane® last?
Restylane® and Perlane® are proven to deliver long-lasting results. Studies have shown that Restylane lasts for about six months. Perlane lasts at least six months in the majority of patients.* The patented stabilization technology helps maintain the cosmetic effect for those time periods.
How are Restylane® or Perlane® different from Botox® Cosmetic?
Botox® Cosmetic and Restylane® are used to correct wrinkles in different ways. Restylane products are cosmetic fillers injected into the skin, adding volume to smooth wrinkles such as the lines from your nose to the corners of your mouth (nasolabial folds). In contrast, Botox relaxes the muscles that cause frown lines between your eyebrows.
Do the injections hurt?
Restylane® and Perlane® are injected directly into the skin in small amounts by an ultrafine needle. As with all injections, some patients may experience discomfort. To increase your comfort, your doctor will assess your need for pain management and determine which technique is right for you.
How much do Restylane® or Perlane® treatments cost?
A Restylane® or Perlane® procedure is customized to your specific needs, so the cost will vary from patient to patient. In general, the cost of Restylane and Perlane treatment is comparable to the cost of similar procedures. However, because Restylane and Perlane provide long-lasting results of about six months, they may prove to be very economical over the long term.
If you want to enjoy a smoother, more youthful appearance for about six months, consult with Dr. Solomon to choose which filler Restylane® or Perlane® is right for you.
Radiesse
What is Radiesse®?
Radiesse® is a safe, next generation dermal filler that is aiming to become the new standard for the correction of facial lines and wrinkles, such as nasolabial folds. Years of rigorous clinical studies prove that Radiesse® provides long lasting correction of smile lines and wrinkles around the nose and mouth. Radiesse® is made of unique calcium-based microspheres suspended in a water-based gel that is injected into the skin through a simple, safe, and minimally invasive procedure. Radiesse® treatments deliver a natural look that lasts.
How does Radiesse® work?
Radiesse® is gently injected into the skin in small amounts with a very fine needle. Radiesse® stimulates the body to produce new collagen. This unique response provides immediate, visible improvement of folds and wrinkles, and provides long-lasting and beautiful results.
Is Radiesse® safe?
In years of rigorous clinical testing and use by physicians in hundreds of thousands of patients worldwide, Radiesse® has been shown to be safe and effective. In the FDA clinical studies there were virtually no allergic reactions. There may be some normal injection related occurrences, such as bruising, discomfort, swelling, or redness that typically resolve on their own.
Am I a Radiesse® candidate?
You may be a Radiesse® dermal filler candidate if you are beginning to notice facial wrinkles, lines, and folds. Radiesse® provides immediate and long-lasting wrinkle correction.
Why "correct" wrinkles with Radiesse®?
Over time, tissue volume diminishes, leaving folds and wrinkles in several common patterns, including the deepening of nasolabial folds, accentuated smile lines (sometimes called "marionette lines"). Radiesse® can be injected into the skin in order to compensate for the loss of volume or to correct these areas. By stimulating the body to produce new collagen, Radiesse® provides a natural look that lasts for a fresh, rested, healthy appearance that still looks like you.
How is a Radiesse® treatment performed?
Radiesse® is injected into the skin through a simple, safe, quick, and minimally invasive outpatient procedure. Typically administered in a physician's office with the use of a local anesthetic, Radiesse® treatment requires little to no downtime, with most patients returning to normal activities almost immediately after treatment.
How soon can I expect results? How long will the results last?
The results are immediate. Radiesse® continues to deliver results as it stimulates your body to produce new collagen. Results may last a year or more in many patients, which may result in fewer office visits for retreatments. Many patients will achieve their desired result after just one or two treatments. To ensure your satisfaction with the treatment, your physician might schedule a follow-up visit, where a touch up treatment might be recommended.
How much does Radiesse® cost?
Because Radiesse® treatment is customized for each patient, its cost varies. In general, the cost of Radiesse® is comparable to similar procedures. And because Radiesse® may require fewer offices visits for retreatment, you could save money and time.
Are there any side effects?
Normal, injection-related reactions such as mild irritation, edema, swelling, itching, discoloration, or tenderness at the injection site may occur. These conditions typically resolve themselves within one to two days.
Could I have an allergic reaction to Radiesse®?
Radiesse® is biocompatible. You do not need to undergo skin allergy testing, which is common with certain animal-based or permanent filler agents, prior to treatment. However, if you believe you are having an allergic reaction to Radiesse®, seek medical attention immediately.
Is Radiesse® permanent?
No. Treatment results are long-lasting, but not permanent. Over time the tiny calcium-based microspheres gradually break down into calcium and phosphate ions which are safely and naturally absorbed into your body, leaving your own newly produced collagen in their place.
What is JUVÉDERM™ indicated for?
Juvéderm™ Ultra and Juvéderm™ Ultra Plus injectable gels are indicated for injection into the mid to deep dermis (below the outer layer of skin) for the correction of moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds, such as nasolabial folds (the creases running from the bottom of your nose to the corners of your mouth, aka smile lines or parentheses).
How is JUVÉDERM™ injectable gel different from BOTOX® Cosmetic?
Juvéderm™ injectable gel is a “next-generation” hyaluronic acid dermal filler that provides volume and is used to treat wrinkles and folds resulting from a loss of volume beneath the surface of the skin such as perioral lines and nasolabial folds (lines around your mouth and nose). Juvéderm™ restores your skin's volume for a smooth, natural look and feel. BOTOX® Cosmetic is not a filler. BOTOX® Cosmetic relaxes muscle activity and is used to treat moderate to severe lines caused by the dominant frown muscles between the eyebrows (the glabellar area). This allows the two vertical lines between the brows, often referred to as the “11,” to temporarily diminish for a smoother appearance.
What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in all mammals that helps to hydrate and add volume to your skin. In addition to its use as an aesthetic treatment, hyaluronic acid has also been used for more than 20 years for injection into arthritic joints to aid movement as well as for eye surgeries and wound repair.
What is cross-linked hyaluronic acid?
“Uncross-linked” hyaluronic acid in its natural form is in a liquid state. “Cross-linking” is the process through which hyaluronic acid is made into a gel product that can be injected into the skin for long-lasting results.
How is JUVÉDERM™ injectable gel used in treatment?
Your healthcare provider eases Juvéderm™ injectable gel into the skin using a fine needle to temporarily fill in and augment the treatment area and smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds such as “smile lines” or “parentheses” (nasolabial folds) and “marionette lines” (oral commissures). Juvéderm™ temporarily adds volume to the skin and may give the appearance of a smoother surface.
What will treatment with JUVÉDERM™ injectable gel accomplish?
Juvéderm™ injectable gel will help to smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles and folds. Most patients need one treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing. And one treatment could smooth your lines and wrinkles for up to 1 year.
Is treatment with JUVÉDERM™ injectable gel painful?
Injections may cause some discomfort during and after the injection. The smooth consistency gel of Juvéderm™ allows your doctor to administer it easily and smoothly. And, Juvéderm™ is injected directly into the skin using a fine needle to reduce injection discomfort. Your doctor may choose to numb (anesthetize) the treatment area to further minimize discomfort.
Does the correction last forever?
No. Correction is temporary; therefore, touch-up injections as well as repeat injections are usually needed to maintain optimal corrections.
What are the possible side effects of JUVÉDERM™ injectable gel?
Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short lasting (7 days or less). The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injections site reactions such as redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching, and discoloration. As with all skin injection procedures there is a risk of infection.
